在迪士尼几十年以来的卡通长片经典中，《风中奇缘》可以说是非常特别的一部，因为这是在所有以“人”为主角的迪士尼卡通里面，头一次让“有色人种”当主角，而且也不是以“皆大欢喜”作为故事的结局。

　　一贯的迪斯尼传统，影片中的音乐成分是很重的，也很精致，迪斯尼公司再度请得艾伦.曼肯(Alan Menken)出马，他为《小美人鱼》，《美女与野兽》，《阿拉丁》创造了浪漫音乐的奇迹，也为自己赢得六座奥斯卡奖，六座格林美奖及十一座金球奖。这次为《风中奇缘》配乐，更丝毫不减大师功力。填词由两获格林美的奖斯蒂芬.舒瓦兹(Stephen Schwartz)操刀。主唱则请来范妮莎.威廉姆斯(Vanessa Williams)，使片中那种深沉的感伤、却又自由新生的浪漫气氛展露无遗。风之彩(Colors Of The Wind)也因此获得了第六十八届奥斯卡最佳电影歌曲。
